Utilizing analytic platforms to track the chatbot’s performance allows for informed adjustments to improve future interactions. This data-driven approach ensures that the chatbot evolves based on user needs and preferences. Revealing a chatbot’s limitations helps set user expectations and retain their trust during interactions.

In 7% of trials, humans received max ratings lower than 2, while AI never received such low ratings. This suggests that, instead of generating new ideas, humans were overrepresented in producing common or low-quality responses. Based on the controlled-attention theories of creativity21,22, it seems that the weakness in human creative thinking, compared to AI chatbots, lies in executive functions. The last time we reported on AI chatbot jailbreaking, some enterprising researchers from NTU were working on Masterkey, an automated method of using the power of one LLM to jailbreak another. To best understand ArtPrompt and how it works, it is probably simplest to check out the two examples provided by the research team behind the tool. In Figure 1 above, you can see that ArtPrompt easily sidesteps the protections of contemporary LLMs. The tool replaces the ‘safety word’ with an ASCII art representation of the word to form a new prompt.
