PAT Reveals 2022 Fiscal Year Performance of 9 Months: Container Throughput Grows Towards Global Economic Recovery

(Port Authority of Thailand) reveals three-quarter performance of 2022’s fiscal year with container throughput growth towards worldwide economic recovery. Director General Port Authority of Thailand, Mr. Kriengkrai Chaisiriwongsuk, revealed that “PAT achieved the performance of service provision for vessels, cargoes, and containers at Bangkok Port, Laem Chabang Port, Chiang Saen Commercial Port, Chiang Khong Port and Ranong Port in the nine-month period of 2022’s fiscal year (October 2021 – June 2022), and we gained net income of 11.799 billion baht, which marks an increase of 1.63% compared to the same window of time in the previous year”.

Three-quarter Performance Achievement Grows Towards Global Economic Recovery 

PAT’s performance during these 9 months (October 2021 – June 2022) features a total of 10,898 vessel calls for Bangkok Port and Laem Chabang Port, which is an increase of 6.98% compared to the same time window last year. On the other hand, through cargo volume is 44.36 million tons, fell by 3.38%. While shifting container throughput went up to 7.52 million TEUs, a rise of 2.94%. Below is the performance of ports under the supervision of PAT:

  • Bangkok Port had 3,381 vessel calls, up by 95%. While cargo volume is 13.97 million tons, showing a drop of 13.77%, and container throughput went down to 0.95 million TEUs, 13.34% lower.
  • Laem Chabang Port had 7,517 vessel calls, 88% heightened, with cargo volume of 30.39 million tons, indicating 2.28% rise, and container throughput of 6.56 million TEUs, which marks an increase of 5.81%.
  • Chiang Saen Commercial Port had 1,442 vessel calls, a reduction of85%, with cargo volume of 60,972 tons which is 20.02% lower. While container throughput comprises 2,147 boxes, showing an increase of 100%.
  • Chiang Khong Port does not have any vessel call and cargo volume, as trade and transportation of goods between Thailand and Lao’s People Democratic Republic are now conducted via the 4th Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge (Chiang Khong – Huay Xai) international cross-border customs.
  • Ranong Port had 132 vessel calls,87% reduced, with cargo volume of 60,916 tons, fell by 35.68%, and container throughput of 2,241 boxes which indicates a drop of 26.38%.

PAT Sees Container Throughput Growth Rising Towards Thai Export Trend                                                                                               

Thai economy from October 2021 to June 2022 was expanding continuously, showing an increase of 2.4%. This indicates that Thailand’s economic growth percentage in 2022 is likely to reach up to 2.7-3.2% as a result of economic recovery. Besides, the consumption of domestic goods and services, including tourism and agriculture demonstrate the economic expansion in parallel with Thailand’s export.
